The biggest number in “different colors” on Tortoises species in captivity, is found in Leopard Tortoises (T. h. babcocki precisely). Due to his natural color is composed by two fundamental colors only, i.e. white (dirty white, yellowish white, grayish white) and greyishbrown (greyishblack, cinnamonblack), they have had great potential to make various color modifications in offsprings, either in nature or in captivity.
So, from some “blondie” animals (with lighter color and more yellow on caparax), through some lighter blondie (near to white) animals, they arrive to snow-white and snow animals, etc… All of these colors appearad as further reduction of Melanin (in wild Leopard Tortoises in Africa, predominantly in G. p. babcocki, there are some cases of albinism and leucism available, too, but not in high melanine animals at all!), and many variations are apparing each season practically.
Now, I am attaching some uncommon Leopard Tortoises colors available by breeders, asking for comment: are some new colors in Leopard Tortoises available in Italy!? I am sure, many breeders of this species are existing in Italy, and this species is bred easy and well. So, I hope, some unusual colors could appear, and are avialble in Italy, too!
Warmest regards, Marco
