Ciao hrrypttr,
Ciao
Dear Alessandro,
it tried to give much more light in this matter, on one other discussion present in this Forum, i.e. on discussion "una copia mia" di Sg. "Vinci". I tried to explain about the differences between three recognized subspecies of T. hermanni (hermanni, boetgeri and hercegovinensis) hoping it will be usable to Tortoises breeders.
I am sure, independing on some enough clear photos attached, the details I gave in this matter are insufficient, and I would like to know your opinion about it.
I am sure, both of us (you and me) are having the same point of view, i.e.
- if there are not more than 3 subspecies of T. hermanni existing in the wild!?, there are many different geographical variations of this tortoises species!?
Melnik, north Greece's, south-east Serbian and Italian T.h. boetgeri are very different animals in appearance, and it could be the same in T. h. hercegovinensis from different geografical locations, as well in T.h. hermanni, too.
Anyway, it is very easy to see, 3 recognized subspecies are different in few significant details (and, maybe in some other details, too), and I will be very happy to her about view of other member of Tarta Forum in this matter!
Warmest regards, Marco
