Dear Carmen,
in the beginning I would like to sent bellow mentioned photos to one other discussion, i.e. in discussion of coppia of T. hermanni sent by Sg. Vincenzo. Inside of this discussion, I claim that one most important characteristic in T.H. hermanni is presence of special design (figure) on last veterbral scute on carapax (ultima placca posteriore), independing on origine of this subspecies.
But, of course, as you wrote in this duscussion, there are significant geographical variations in T.H. hermanni, too, as well as in T.H. boetgeri.
I found today some photos made in France, i.e. photos of T.H. hermanni available by one French breeder. Independing photos were made on extensive light, these animals are very strange to me. Yes, of course, they are T.H. hermanni, no doubt in it, but their color is appearing unusual to me. They are very dark colored, i.e. with great presence of black markings on carapace scutes. I would like to see plastron photos of these specimens, of course, to see if there are some differences with usualy colored T.H. hermanni, too!?
Anyway, my experience with pure T.H. hermanni is very poor, due I am having not this subspecies in my own bred over here, and I hope, members of this Forum will be able to help me in this matter, i.e. - to let me know about apearance of Tortoises by French's breeder. It means, what you are thinking about body color of these animals!? Is it normal color in T.H. hermanni, or they are more darker than usualy?
Warmest regards, Marco
